Load shedding will adversely affect internet service
The government has decided to stop power generation from diesel-based power plants in the country. Due to this, the country is going to loadshedding area wise from tomorrow Tuesday (July 19). As a result of this, telecommunications and internet services may be adversely affected, Bangladesh Cellphone Consumers Association, an organization working to protect the interests of consumers, believes.
In a statement, the president of the organization, Mohiuddin Ahmed, said that electricity is one of the raw materials for providing internet services. There are more than 100,000 BTS towers across the country, powered by electricity, to provide mobile internet services. So if the power supply is interrupted, the internet service will be adversely affected.
He also said that each operator has zone-based operation centers, which require large amounts of electricity. Even the operation centers of ISPs are powered by electricity. With the government's load-shedding decision, the Ministry of Telecommunication or BTRC's eco system development activities have not been noticed so far. Due to lack of coordination in this regard, there may be widespread chaos in telecommunication and internet services.
Mohiuddin Ahmed commented that internet is one of the services in life nowadays and said that if the office and business hours are reduced, the demand for telecommunication and internet services will increase to a large extent. Therefore, advance preparations should be made to keep telecommunication and internet services uninterrupted.
