Robi launched experimental 5G
The country's second largest mobile phone operator Robi entered the fifth generation network by successfully conducting 5G trials in Dhaka and Rangpur. Robi conducted the trial of 5G network on Wednesday (September 28). Huawei Technologies provided technical support for the experiment.
In testing, Robi demonstrated virtual reality video, cloud gaming via smartphone, augmented reality interaction, 360 panoramic live and naked-eye 3D experiences powered by 5G technology with speeds of over one Gbps.
Acting CEO and CFO of Robi in 5G test, M. Riaz Rasheed and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Perihan Elhami Ahmed Metaweh were present.
M. Riaz Rashid said, "We are very happy to have successfully tested the specific use-based 5G in Dhaka and Rangpur. This is a big part of 5G's progress in providing innovative digital experiences to customers' lives.
To be noted, as the first operator on July 25, 2018, Robi conducted the test of 5G in collaboration with Department of Posts and Telecommunications, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, and Huawei.
Grameenphone, the country's largest mobile operator, conducted a 5G trial in Dhaka and Chittagong on July 26. Recently, the company started 5G trial in eight divisional cities of the country.
