About 3 million mobile SIM cards may be closed next November. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has taken a new decision regarding SIM ban.
According to BTRC sources, any citizen of the country can buy 15 SIM cards with a national identity card. But many have also picked up 30 SIM cards with a national identity card. The number of these SIM cards is more than 3 million. These SIMs will be phased out.
It is also known that the mobile operators have started contact with 7 lakh customers among those who picked up additional SIMs more than the norm. Mobile operators are going to talk to customers to find out which SIMs they want to turn off and on. Until October 15, customers will have an opportunity to choose whether to keep a SIM off or on.
Regarding the SIM card, Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar told reporters that recently BTRC has analyzed the data of national identity card of 184 million mobile connection users of the country. The analysis shows that seven lakh 23 thousand customers have taken additional three million SIMs than the prescribed number.
